“Our 8 year old son Nate, started at Kimura 2 days a week when he was 5 1/2. Today he practices 2 to 3 days a week and he wouldn't have it any other way. It's his favorite activity of the week. He has learned patience, discipline, focus, self esteem, dignity, respect, confidence and sportsmanship. He has learned to work hard and practice hard. He has learned what it is like to be a part of a team.
He has won medals, belts, trophies and swords - and has been beaten soundly on more than one occasion, and has learned to lose with the same dignity and grace with which he wins. All qualities embodied by Master Jean and the rest of the Team Kimura.
We're impressed with his teachers, the adult students and the other children in his class. We couldn't imagine a better group of friends and role models to have around our son for a few hours every week. Rodrigo, the head children's teacher has the special gift to teach. It's one thing to be able to compete, but quite another to be able to teach the magic to somebody else. Rod's commitment to his kid's is always 100% and you can see them all get better every week.
From a safety standpoint, we just want to point out that after 250 classes, we've never seen a child hurt badly enough to miss more than 10 minutes of practice. Not a single injury of any substance at all - ever. It's the mark of a really well run sport, and a really great compliment for Jean and his staff. Another unexpected plus is that Nate gets to learn a little Portuguese for free........how can you go wrong with that. Do your kids a favor and let them do one practice at Kimura and see what they think. We did, and after almost three years we couldn't be happier about it.”
